It's a commitment for the next 4 to 6 weeks, with a fill-in booked somewhere in the middle to keep it looking good and, more importantly, to keep your natural nails healthy underneath. When Should You Book a Fill-In?
Every 3 to 4 weeks is the general rule for gel or acrylic extensions. That's roughly how long it takes for natural nail growth to create a visible gap at the base without yet stressing the extension badly. During a fill-in, your tech removes the grown-out portion, rebalances the shape and structure, and refreshes the color or finish, rather than replacing the whole set from scratch. Depending on the option, a fill-in appointment takes 60 to 180 minutes.

Removal: Why You Should Never Peel Them Off
Picking or peeling an extension off yourself pulls off layers of your natural nail along with it. The extension is bonded more strongly than your natural nail plate itself, so forcing it off takes nail with it, leaving thin, weak, sometimes painful nails underneath. A professional removal files or soaks the product off in 15 to 40 minutes, taking off only the extension and leaving your natural nail intact.

What Happens During a Fill-In
- Check-in. Your tech looks over the current set: how much has grown out, how the structure is holding, any lifting or damage to address.
- Removing the grown-out portion. The section between your cuticle and the original extension base is filed down and blended.
- Cuticle care. Cuticles are tidied so the rebalanced product bonds cleanly.
- Rebuilding and rebalancing. Product is added and shaped to restore even structure and the length/shape you want.
- Color and finish. Gel color, french, or ombre is applied and cured, then sealed with top coat.
You don't need to bring anything: tools, products, and color options are all provided in-salon.

How often should I get a fill?

Can I switch to a different color during fill?

Do fills damage natural nails?
